Quality Interactions Initiative

The Mississippi Perinatal Quality Collaborative (MSPQC) developed the Quality Interactions Project to elevate the voices of birthing people and ensure their experiences are incorporated into maternal health quality improvement efforts.

At the center of this initiative is a Patient Reported Experience Measure (PREM), a tool designed to capture patients’ perspectives on their healthcare experiences, including communication, respect, shared decision making, and overall quality of care. MSPQC’s customized PREM, the Mother’s Own Measure (M.O.M.) Survey, provides mothers across Mississippi with an opportunity to share feedback about their hospital birth
experiences.

Survey findings are shared with participating hospitals to help identify opportunities for improvement, strengthen communication between patients and healthcare providers, and inform quality improvement strategies and practices. By listening directly to mothers and incorporating their experiences into improvement efforts, the Quality Interactions Project supports more patient-centered, respectful, and responsive
maternity care across Mississippi.
