MADISON, MS August 22, 2025 – The Mississippi Perinatal Quality Collaborative (MSPQC), a program of the Mississippi Public Health Institute, successfully hosted a live stream event, “Honoring Breastfeeding: Tools, Truths & Tenderness,” on August 19th, 2025. The event, held as part of Breastfeeding Awareness Month, aimed to equip individuals supporting breastfeeding journeys with essential tools, truths, and tender support.
The live stream event was facilitated by LeJeune Johnson, LCSW, PMH-C of TherapyPLUS, LLC and featured Alisia Hankins, DNP, NNP-BC, IBCLC, a Lactation Specialist, who shared valuable insights and practical tips for new moms and stressed the importance of having support in their breastfeeding journey. Participants explored a range of crucial topics, including the physical and mental health benefits of breastfeeding, strategies for supporting mothers facing emotional or mental health challenges, navigating breastfeeding while managing medications, practical advice for breastfeeding as a working mother, understanding and addressing cultural disparities in breastfeeding, and available community and clinical resources. The event was approved for CEUs credits in the Social Work and Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) fields, highlighting the program’s commitment to professional development in the related fields.
